Bethlehem Ministry works to bring the light and love of Jesus Christ to the people of Haiti, the poorest country in our hemisphere. The organization was formed to facilitate the work of Father Bruno, a Haitian Episcopal priest, whose efforts St. Andrew’s has supported since 1977. Bethlehem Ministry focuses its efforts primarily in Terrier Rouge, a community of approximately 25,000 people located in northeast Haiti. The programs Bethlehem Ministry supports include:
- Education: St. Barthélémy School, now with over 1300 students in grades K-13. The school has an excellent academic and extracurricular program and is a cornerstone of the Terrier Rouge community. Sponsoring a student for just $300/yr. provides a uniform, healthcare, books and a hot meal daily, that for many of the children will be the only meal they get.
- Healthcare: Clinique Espérance et Vie, a medical clinic that provides general medical services, as well as vision and dental care and has a pharmacy and laboratory.
- Economic and Environmental: Jatrofa Projenou, which works to create economic opportunity in rural NE Haiti through sustainable agricultural projects including Jatropha seed oil, renewable wood, and goat production.
- Humanitarian Aid: Espérance et Vie, the Haitian NGO, which, in addition to being the umbrella NGO for the School and Clinic, provides food, emergency supplies, housing and other humanitarian aid for the community.
