STUDENT POLICIES
New Parents and Students: Please review the FAQ (frequently asked questions) and Attendance Requirements before enrolling.
ENROLLMENT GUIDELINES - FALL/SPRING SESSIONS
- Term Schedule: Fall and spring classes follow a 14-week term. SOFA observes one week off for Spring Break and closes Tuesday through Friday of Thanksgiving week.
- Instructor Placement: While we strive to maintain consistency, student placement with the same private instructor is not guaranteed from one semester to the next. However, we make every effort to keep students with the same teacher whenever possible.
- Calendar & Closures: The SOFA calendar is available online at www.sahouston.com/sofa and on the SOFA bulletin board. Please note that SOFA’s holiday and vacation schedule may differ from that of HISD and St. Andrew’s Children’s Place. In the event of extreme weather, SOFA follows HISD’s public closure announcements.
- Registration Fee: A non-refundable registration fee of $50 is required for each student per semester to support enrollment processing and administrative costs.
- Deposits & Payment: A $100 deposit or full tuition payment is required at the time of registration to reserve a student’s spot.
- Late Registration: Registration forms submitted after the deadline will incur a $25 late fee.
- Lesson Time Commitment: Once a lesson time has been confirmed, students are expected to commit to that time slot for the entire term. Refunds will not be issued for scheduling conflicts that arise after the semester begins.
- Class Availability: If we are unable to place a student in their requested class, families will be notified and given the option to: (a) switch to an available class, (b) receive credit towards another session, or (c) receive a tuition refund.
ENROLLMENT GUIDELINES - SUMMER SESSION
- Registration Fee: A non-refundable $25 registration fee is required for each student enrolled in summer classes to support enrollment processing and administrative costs.
- Term Length: Summer classes follow either a 6-week or 8-week term.
- Scheduling: Summer schedules are designed with flexibility in mind to accommodate vacations and other commitments. However, once lesson times are confirmed with the instructor, they cannot be changed.
- Fall Priority Placement: Private lesson students enrolled in the spring semester must complete a minimum of six summer lessons to receive priority placement for the fall semester.
