Our Curriculum at St. Andrew’s Children’s Place
At St. Andrew’s Children’s Place, we provide a developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum that fosters the growth of the whole child. Our dedicated and skilled teachers communicate God’s love and Christian principles throughout daily activities, capturing each child’s imagination and providing experiences that promote their spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development.
Our curriculum is organized around thematic units, with evidence-based goals and objectives that are tailored to each age group. Every classroom is a unique learning environment featuring a variety of centers for exploration, including:
- Art, Science, and Math
- Dramatic Play and Manipulatives
- Sensory Experiences and Writing
- Language Skills, Literacy, and Block Building
Children have the freedom to explore these centers, engaging in hands-on learning, while also participating in teacher-directed group activities and student-led experiences. Teachers work closely with each child to offer one-on-one support for skills that need extra attention or provide enrichment opportunities for those ready for more advanced challenges.
We also integrate activities such as:
- Basic Spanish – Introducing key words and phrases to build early language skills.
- Sign Language – Teaching simple signs to enhance communication.
- Baby Yoga – Gentle movements for infants to promote physical development and relaxation.
- Infant Walking Field Trips – For infants, providing opportunities for exploration in the nearby neighborhood
- Special Events & Community Building – Engaging parents and fostering a sense of community through events throughout the year.
Outdoor play and activities in our Family Center and indoor play gym are a vital part of every day, offering children time for physical activity, social interaction, and relaxation.
In addition to our core curriculum, we incorporate Handwriting Without Tears, a play-based literacy program designed for our 3- and 4-year-olds to build foundational writing skills. We also partner with a literacy specialist who works closely with our Pre-K Hummingbird teachers to support the implementation of the Reading Readiness Program through the Neuhaus Center, ensuring that our students develop strong early literacy skills in a fun and engaging way.
