James answered the call to serve St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church as Director of Music Ministries in December of 2009. He loves the people of St. Andrew’s and considers this not only his calling but also his home.

His musical journey started early by learning to play the trumpet in 5th grade which he studied until going to college.  There he discovered a passion for singing, earning a Bachelor of Music Degree in vocal performance at Oklahoma City University. This led him to pursue a performance career featuring work with the San Diego Opera, the San Diego Master Chorale, Houston Grand Opera and Cantare Houston.

In the late 90’s, he felt called away from a performance career to pursue a ministry vocation, earning a Masters degree in music at Southeastern Louisiana University focusing on voice and conducting. This eventually led him to Houston where he has since enjoyed a full-time career as a church musician. He is a passionate advocate for Christian artists and music of all types, exploring the myriad ways in which music affects worship and people’s faith journey.

James loves his life of music at St. Andrew’s with his wife Christina and daughters Brittany and Destiny.
